A handcrafted gold plated kapala (skull cup) made in accordance with Gelugpa tradition and imagery. The body of the skull cup rests on a tripod of human heads above a fire and wind mandala, and the intricately carved lid is adorned with a vajra handle. It is most commonly used as a vessel for the practitioner's 'inner offering', made from either alcohol or black tea mixed with nectar pills. It can also be used to hold ritual cakes and other tantric offerings.

The kapala is an essential ritual object for anyone engaging in higher tantric practices such as Yamantaka, Kalachakra, Chakrasamvara or Vajrayogini. Practitioners who aspire to advance to practices such as these should also keep a kapala as part of their ritual set for auspicious reasons.
