A medium-sized suede-wrapped wooden ringing stick for use with medium to large singing bowls. It can be used for both the striking and rimming methods of playing, and the soft suede surface produces less-harsh, more ethereal sounds while the wooden surface produces higher and brighter tones.

The sound of a singing bowl does not just depend on the material and quality of the bowl itself but also the instrument used to make the bowl sing. Hence it's essential to use the correct mallet or striker for your bowl.

Rimming Method

  1. Hold the bowl on the flat of your palm. Ensure that your palm does not mute the bowl or prevent it from vibrating freely.
  2. Applying even pressure, rub the ringing stick clockwise around the rim of the bowl.
  3. Experiment with the wood and suede surfaces, the speed of moving the ringing stick, the angle of contact and the amount of pressure until you are satisfied with the tone and volume.
  4. It is important to apply even pressure using your arm instead of your wrist.

Striking Method

  1. Hold the bowl on the flat of your palm or place it on a singing bowl ring cushion. Ensure that your palm does not mute the bowl or prevent it from vibrating freely.
  2. Using either the wood or suede surface, strike the singing bowl at the rim from the side.
  3. Do not strike too far down or from above as the bowl will not vibrate properly.
  4. The harder you strike, the louder and more powerful the tone.
  5. Do not strike too hard as the sound will become metallic and unpleasant.
