By employing diverse skilful means, the Buddha taught about 84,000 methods to Enlightenment, to suit all possible dispositions and spiritual levels of his students. This printed thangka depicts Buddha Shakyamuni as the central figure, with his right hand lightly touching the ground beneath him, symbolic of his invoking the earth to bear witness to the truth and virtue of his actions and words.

Next to Buddha Shakyamuni are his two main disciples: Shariputra on the left and Maudgalyayana on the right, famous for their intellectual and mystical powers respectively. From left to right above Buddha Shakyamuni are 4-armed Chenrezig, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), Vajrasattva, Manjushri and Vajrapani. At the bottom left of the thangka is Namgyalma and bottom right is Green Tara.
