“When a great teacher passes away, a stupa is erected as a symbol that his subtle mind remains unchanging and ever-present in our lives."
Following the parinirvana of our beloved teacher and founder, H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, we have begun the construction of the Tsem Rinpoche Relic Temple, a permanent spiritual memorial situated in the beautiful grounds of Kechara Forest Retreat.
Located within the Relic Temple are beautiful and sacred spiritual monuments to enshrine Rinpoche’s holy relics, honour his incredible incarnation lineage and pay tribute to his life’s work.
The 20,000 square-foot Relic Temple comprises of:
- The 20ft Outdoor Relic Stupa that enshrines Rinpoche’s precious white relic pills and holy remains.
- The 15ft Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen Stupa that enshrines Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen’s precious relics and those of his previous lives.
- The 7ft Tsem Rinpoche Statue, a larger-than-life likeness of our beloved spiritual guide.
- The 7ft Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen Statue, the erudite master who arose as the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden.
- The 3ft Incarnation Statues of Rinpoche’s previous lives, as formally identified by Dorje Shugden.
- The Tsem Rinpoche Incarnation Chapel, a two-storey building that houses the indoor stupas and statues, and the Wall of Merits, dedicated to everyone who has supported this project.
- The Holy Reliquaries, to allow visitors to view and receive blessings from Rinpoche's precious white relic pills and the relics of Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen.
- The Relic Temple grounds, a circular courtyard with landscaped gardens, outdoor seating, candle offering grottoes, circumambulation paths, prostration decks and quiet spaces for students and visitors to engage in prayer and practice.
Far from being a simple physical structure, the Relic Temple is alive with blessings. It commemorates the life, deeds and legacy of our precious teacher for current and future generations. More significantly, the Relic Temple is a powerful beacon that will help Rinpoche’s students and followers create the energy and merits to swiftly draw Rinpoche's next incarnation to take rebirth in this time and place. Furthermore, making extensive prayers and offerings at this holy site will help students generate the merits for Rinpoche’s next incarnation to manifest the great deeds of his previous lives, and for his work to grow even more.
Work on the Relic Temple (and the larger Relic Stupa Project) began in October 2019, spearheaded by Tsem Ladrang and Kechara’s management committee. In September 2020, the first memorial – Rinpoche’s Indoor Relic Stupa – was completed in conjunction with Rinpoche’s one-year parinirvana anniversary.
In September 2022, we completed The Relic Temple — a permanent spiritual memorial situated in the beautiful grounds of Kechara Forest Retreat, Rinpoche's Outdoor Relic Stupa, the Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen Stupa and statues of Rinpoche’s 24 previous lives. This was followed by a grand consecration ceremony (Rabney Chenmo) conducted by Tibetan high lamas and monks from around the world.
With your generous support, we hope to complete the final phase of the project (7ft Tsem Rinpoche statue) in September 2023.
More benefits of supporting this project
- Prosperity, abundance and fulfilment of wishes
- Long life and good health
- Purification of negative karma
- Protection from obstacles, misfortune and negative beings
- A strong connection with H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s next incarnation

Buddha taught that those who help build places of worship will always have incredible wealth and power in future lives, and will eventually attain enlightenment. The great Indian yogi, Nagden Pawo also said that anyone who contributes to such a project, no matter how small that contribution is, even if it is just requesting others for donations, continuously collects tremendous merits even as they go about their daily lives.

In addition, prayers and merits will be dedicated to you by the high lamas and erudite monks who will perform the consecration ceremony upon completion of this incredibly blessed project.
We urge you to make history by helping to build the Tsem Rinpoche Relic Temple, the first of its kind in the region.
