Every part of a stupa shows the path to Enlightenment, making it an object fit for veneration. Seeing an image of a stupa or making offerings to one creates an imprint of Enlightenment in our mind streams, generates tremendous merits and helps us gain a better rebirth and ultimately, Enlightenment.
This antique-finish copper stupa is handcrafted in the style of the Enlightenment Stupa or Jangchub Chorten, the second of the Eight Great Stupas that symbolise eight great events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni. As its name implies, it represents the historical Buddha's achievement of Enlightenment at the age of 35, after sitting in meditation for 49 days under a pipal tree at Bodhgaya, India.
The Enlightenment Stupa's most distinctive feature is the four unadorned square steps sitting atop a square base in the form of a lion throne. The top is adorned by a parasol with thirteen descending "rings" below while the centre features a square balcony-like structure atop a vase-shaped body.
The hollow interior of this stupa allows you to insert sacred items such as holy pills, precious relics, mantras and other blessed objects. As a reliquary of sacred items, making prayers and offerings to a stupa is therefore equivalent to making it to the Buddhas. Place it on your altar, in the shrine room or meditation area for daily veneration.
