- Copper Lama Cup Stand
Description
Details
Handmade from copper by skilled Himalayan artisans, this ceremonial lama cup set consists of an eight-petaled lotus stand and matching cover, featuring carvings of the eight auspicious signs and other traditional Tibetan motifs.
In ancient Tibet, respected personages such as high lamas, honoured guests and heads of families were usually served tea in a traditional teacup (without handles), placed on an ornate stand and covered with an equally ornate lid. The tradition continues to this day in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and high lamas' ladrangs.
Also known as a dhakya set, this ceremonial lama cup stand is suitable for making offerings to lamas during Buddhist ceremonies and rituals, or to your guru's image on your personal shrine. It can be filled with hot tea, auspicious rice or any other food or drink offering. If you are making the offering at your shrine or altar, the lid is usually kept closed to prevent insects and dust from contaminating the offering.
