Also known as Kuan Yin (in Chinese), Avalokiteshvara (in Sanskrit) or Kwannon (in Japanese), Chenrezig is widely revered for watching over all sentient beings with great compassion. His image blesses our mind stream, and enhances the development of our compassion on the path to enlightenment. His image also encourages harmony, calms the immediate environment and grants protection from negative energy.
His four arms represent the Four Immeasurables of loving kindness, joy, equanimity and compassion. Two hands are folded in prayer, holding a wish-fulfilling jewel at his heart. In this same way, he holds Bodhicitta, or selfless love for all sentient beings closest to his heart. He inspires us to practise real inner transformation of our negative qualities becoming truly beautiful from the inside out.
