This elaborate crescent-shaped hat is a ceremonial monk hat worn by sangha from the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Called a 'Tsoksha', it has great spiritual significance and is worn during specific Tibetan Buddhist rituals and ceremonies.
According to tradition, yellow hats were worn as an auspicious sign of the revival of monastic discipline and ethics during Lama Tsongkhapa's time, while the threads in the "horse's mane" at the top of the hat are said to represent the 1000 Buddhas that will appear on Earth. Therefore, the Tsoksha represents the blessings of a thousand Buddhas.
Handmade by master tailors trained in the Tibetan monastic tradition, this traditional monk hat is part of H.E. Tsem Rinpoche's personal collection of ceremonial Buddhist regalia, and is imbued with the blessings of his extensive prayers and practices, altruistic mind, enlightened activities and attainments of Compassion and Wisdom.
This blessed tsoksha makes a unique, thoughtful offering for any ordained person from the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism, or as a blessed item to be venerated on one's altar or shrine.
