Lower Tantras
Lower tantric deities are very popular in Tibetan Buddhism. ‘Lower’ does not refer to their inferior status but to their greater accessibility, as practitioners do not need initiation to receive the related teachings, recite the mantra and do the practice. The lower tantric pantheon thus comprises of deities such as Buddha Shakyamuni, Medicine Buddha, Avalokiteshvara and Tara which are commonly practised in all schools of Buddhism.
Setting up an altar with their image and making offerings to them is very beneficial to collect merits, make a connection to the enlightened Beings and create the causes to receive higher practices in the future.
