Every Tibetan Buddhist practitioner aspires to receive the initiation of one of the higher tantric deities because of the vast benefits the practice bestows upon them. This includes deities such as Heruka Chakrasamvara, Vajrayogini, Yamantaka or Guhyasamaja.

To receive the initiation, one should have completed the preliminary practices of Vajrayana Buddhism such as 100,000 prostrations, 100,000 water offerings, 100,000 mandala offerings, 100,000 Vajrasattva mantras, 100,000 Guru Yogas or making 100,000 tsa tsas.

Prior to receiving the initiation however, one can still make offerings to an image of these higher tantric deities. Doing so allows the practitioner to make a connection with them, thus creating the causes to receive their practice in the future.
