Wrathful emanation of Buddha Amitabha, Setrap is an ancient protector who comes from Bodhgaya, where Lord Shakyamuni himself was enlightened. His role is to protect Buddha’s teachings and make the Dharma grow. In this capacity, Setrap has been the Protector of Gaden Shartse Monastery for the 600 years of their existence.
Setrap comes swiftly to our rescue when we face outer and inner obstacles in our spiritual path. Motivated by compassion for all sentient beings, his fierce demeanour is similar to that of an angry parent towards their wayward children hoping to wake them to their senses, and stop them from harming themselves. His practice also grants protection from black magic.
